Chamonix - Aiguille du Midi

If you pass by Chamonix, do not miss the opportunity to go up to the Aiguille du Midi. In summertime, by good weather, the light is the best early in the morning. A first section rises to the Plan de l'Aiguille where from we move on to the second cable railway which rises practically upright along the face of the peak. From the cable terminal station an elevator leads to the superior platform.

By going out outdoors, if it is the first time, you feel that you will never be completely as before. The panorama is sublime. The Mont Blanc of course, the Vallée Blanche, the glacier du Géant, the quite close Grandes Jorasses and on the horizon the Matterhorn, the Mountain Rose...

The words are useless and photos betray the immensity of the view.

From the Peak, small cabins transport you in two vertiginous jumps in the Helbronner station, 300 meters above the glacier du Géant who feeds the Mer de Glace. Magnificent sight on the gaping seracs below. From Helbronner, it's possible to go down to Courmayeur in Italy 2500 meters below. An alternative to the tunnel !

On the way back towards Chamonix in the afternoon a hike from the Plan de l'Aiguille to the Montenvers offers points of view on the valley, on the Brévent, La Flégère and the massif of the Aiguilles Rouges on the opposite hillside.
