Jungfrau massif

Jungfrau and the Sphinx at Jungfraujoch - SwitzerlandLocated at the center of Switzerland, southern the area of the lakes, the Jungfrau mountains are classified by UNESCO since 2001.

Many summits higher than 4000m, Eiger, Mönch, Aletschhorn, Jungfrau, surround a splendid circus where the large Aletsch glacier takes its source and then flows on more 22 km.

From Interlaken or Grindelwald, a small rack train permits to reach the Jungfraujoch, the highest european railway station, by a tunnel dug in the Eiger mountain. From the intermediate station located on the col of Kleine Scheidegg we have already a splendid sight on the massif. On the top, on a rocky peak, the panoramic platform of the Sphinx allows to embrace a unique panorama.

The glacier is accessible to everybody, without crampons nor ice axe, for a walk of a few kilometers at 3600 m. Nevertheless make sure you bring adequate clothes for this altitude.
