Trier

Nested in the Moselle valley, Trier is a nice town situated on the West of Germany, near the border of Luxemburg.

We found here several good preserved roman vestiges, rare in North Germany. As an example, the "Porta Nigra", the Black Door, so-called for the color the centuries gave to its stones, built under the reign of the emperor Constantin in the IVth century. A basilica was also built under Constantin and has been fully restored (perhaps a little bit too carefully).

The ruins of the imperial thermae and a more ancient amphitheatre (Irst century) complete the list of the most noticeable roman monuments. The modern town proposes convivial pedestrian streets with harmonious and colored façades.
